Valentine’s Day or Boudoir Shoot Lingerie

With Valentine's Day fast approaching I thought I would share some sweet looks in lingerie that would double nicely as a gift but would also look lovely for a boudoir photo shoot! For boudoir shoots I recommend COLOR, bright, beautiful color. If you must do black, try to make it interesting, by selecting something with unusual details.

Agent Provocateur has long been a favorite of mine. Their items are a little less frilly and sexy in a more grown-up way than other lingerie collections I have come across.

La Perla has some sexy, unusual collections right now too.

And if you are looking for FUN, look no further than Trashy Lingerie! They have some of the cutest looks imaginable!

They also have sexy shoes, which are super important for your boudoir session!

Well, our festivities are pretty much over. Joe and I are winding down already. We spent Christmas Eve with my wonderful family (my son and my mother). We made a humble (yet delicious) Christmas meal, we opened gifts and then played the game, "Apples to Apples". So fun! And then this morning Joe and I opened our gifts for each other. My favorite one? See the pics above!!!! Woohoo!

Really, though, the best gift is always having the ones you care about nearby and celebrating love and togetherness. And this year that was especially important for me since Austin will soon be joining the Navy. This could be the last Christmas he gets to spend with us for awhile.

I've never been much of a jewelry person, except for when I need something for a specific outfit or it is given to me as a gift (rare...lol) but I find myself looking at Tiffany & Co. jewelry quite often. I love these simple rings they carry...the Paloma Picasso True Love ring and the Frank Gehry Torque ring.

I am also quite fond of 'right hand' rings such as the one above found on ebay.

New Recipes to Try

I just found these really yummy looking recipes I am dying to try on marthastewart.com. I'll let you know how they are once I try them.

Mediterranean Chicken

Prep: 5 minutes Total: 30 minutes
Serves 4.

INGREDIENTS
1 pint grape tomatoes
16 Kalamata olives, pitted and halved
3 tablespoons drained capers, rinsed
3 tablespoons olive oil
4 (about 6 ounces each) boneless chicken breast halves, with skin
Coarse salt
Freshly ground pepper

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 475 degrees. Toss tomatoes, olives, capers, and 2 tablespoons oil together in a medium bowl. Set aside.
Rinse chicken, and pat dry. Season both sides with salt and pepper. Heat a large ovenproof skillet over high heat until hot. Add remaining tablespoon oil; heat until hot but not smoking. Place chicken in skillet, skin sides down; cook until deep golden brown, about 4 minutes. Turn chicken over. Add tomato mixture to skillet.
Transfer skillet to oven. Roast until chicken is cooked through and tomatoes have softened, about 18 minutes.

Chicken with Tomatoes and Mushrooms

Prep: 20 minutes Total: 50 minutes
Serves 4.

Also known as chicken cacciatore, this rustic stew cooks in a rich tomato mushroom sauce. Serve over rice or with a thick slice of crusty bread.

INGREDIENTS
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, about 1 1/2 pounds
Coarse salt and ground pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound mushrooms, trimmed and quartered
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (14.5 ounces) stewed tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

DIRECTIONS
Season chicken with salt and pepper. In a large (5-quart) saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, heat oil over medium-high heat; swirl to coat bottom of pan. Cook chicken, turning when it easily releases from the pan, until golden, 4 to 6 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
Add mushrooms; cover, and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic, tomatoes, and oregano. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, covered, until tomatoes have broken down, 10 to 15 minutes.
Return chicken and any accumulated juices to pan; cover, and cook until chicken is opaque throughout, 4 to 6 minutes. Turn chicken to coat with sauce, and serve.

If so, then I am looking forward to good things starting to happen. First, I got laid off from my job and haven't been successful in finding full time employment anywhere else. Thankfully, though, the place that laid me off has me back doing temporary work here and there. Then my son got jumped and pretty beat up. And finally, last Saturday I took a pretty nasty spill down the stairs first thing that morning. I banged my back and tailbone up pretty good....still in pain from it. So, I am hopeful that my luck is about to change for the better now. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Signature Scents

My latest signature fragrance has been Miss Dior Cherie, but I am thinking about going back to my old standby, Green Tea by Bvlgari. I first discovered this perfume while in Milan, Italy in 1999. I received so many compliments on the way it smelled while there!

I had a moment of creative inspiration and decided to do another cafepress shop called, The Blue Zebra, selling things like clocks, tote bags, mugs, pet bowls, etc. A few of the items are shown above.

I will also be doing a pink zebra store and a few others since I have more time on my hands to do fun (and hopefully profitable!) things like this until I find a job. I haven't created cafepress items in years, but have had some recent sales in my old shops, so hopefully the new items will start selling too! Wish me luck!

While shopping for my Bare Escentuals foundation powder the other day, I saw that they had a new eyeshadow collection out, called The Rocker Eye Kit. The sparkly metallics really sparked my interest! I cannot stop thinking about going back and buying it! I also noticed The Smoky Eye Kit that I totally want now too! The iQuad looks pretty cool, too for the basics. Well, For the second time within a years span, I find myself with the daunting task of finding new employment, as I was laid off from my job yesterday along with other dear friends. Scary as that is, the most frightening part is wondering how in the world I am going to stay afloat in the meantime. I was barely squeaking by as it was, with a steady income! Looking around at the lack of jobs in my field at the moment also gives me heart palpitations. Will I have to forget about my skills and just become a waitress to pay the bills?

I find solace in knowing that I have people in my life who love me...that's what matters most in life anyway, right? And I find hope in believing that everything happens for a reason and that when bad things happen, something better is usually waiting just around the corner!

So, here's to new beginnings!

Lots of freelance this coming week, thank goodness! I have recently gone from a double income household to a single income and am finding it difficult to survive on just my salary alone, so I am incredibly grateful for the current and upcoming side projects I will be working on.

One of the things I am currently doing is this logo revamp for Fiji Water (above). They asked me to ‘crest’ their logo to tie in to the theme of the event they are sponsoring - The Palm’s (Playboy) Midsummer Nights Dream Party. Such a fun project!

I love Daniel Boud's concert photography. I find I am most drawn to his crowd shots though. He captures the emotions of excited concert-goers so perfectly. This shot in particular brings back a really fond memory for me.

Around 1994, I went to Lollapalooza with a few friends. Somehow we ended up backstage and I got separated. No biggie, I was totally at home there, having fun meeting new people and mingling with the artists. I missed the actual concerts because of this, but I didn't care, I was having too much fun being social! One person I met though, grabbed my hand at one point and led me towards some stairs. he had a surprise for me...as I got to the top of the stairs I felt an incredible rush of excitement as I was practically blown away from an industrial strength fan blowing towards me, coupled with the most intense, melodic guitars blazing loudly. It was of course, the Smashing Pumpkins and I was right on stage with them!! What really got me was seeing the concert from their point of view. The crowd was totally in the moment and LOVING the band! I just thought that must be an incredible feeling for the band (or any band really), knowing they were responsible for these elated emotions in so many people at once.

I also had my picture taken with the Beastie Boys and George Clinton of P Funk All Stars that day. Never got to see the shots though...was unsure what they were taken for!

Ahhh, those were the days!

Sex and the City!!!

Went and saw Sex and the City last night. I was worried the movie wouldn't hold up to the cable version we all grew to know and love, but let me tell you it was soooo very good! It felt like a reunion amongst friends of sorts seeing the characters who reminded me of so many of my own dear friends. And, the audience was going wild. I have never heard such a loud buzz of happy movie-goers as I did at the end of the movie while everyone was walking out.

Go see this movie! Better yet, grab a bunch of your best girlfriends and see it as a group! You'll be so glad you did!

Happy Mother's Day

Well, Mother's Day is off to a rough start, but in honor of my mother, here is a little about her....

My mother had me at a very young age and raised me for the most part as a single mother. She was very lucky in the men department though, and always had an admirer (or 2!!!) wanting to marry her! It was almost ridiculous at how fast a man would want to marry my mom...I'm talking within a month of meeting her they were popping the question! I obviously didn't inherit that trait from her. :) Anyway, she always struggled to make ends meet, but managed somehow to feed my dreams of singing, dancing, playing the flute & piccolo, acting, etc by coming up with money to keep me in classes for all of my silly, lofty dreams. I even managed to get Best Dressed at school in the 6th grade because she allowed me to charge up her credit card to get cute school clothes that year. My mom is the funniest, smartest, most creative and quick-witted woman I have ever come across! She has kept me laughing throughout the years with her practical jokes and lightning fast sense of humor. I'm thankful for everything that makes her unique and for all that she does for me and for Austin.

I am definitely ready for a nice little getaway. A weekend at a boutique hotel in Palm Springs or a whole week (or TWO!)somewhere tropical would suit me just fine right about now! I'm diggin' these coverups (1 & 2) for such an occassion. And, I am still wanting the Tom Ford 'Jennifer' sunglasses!

I just watched a disturbing report of a baby seal tangled in fishing net. The fishing net was caught around it's neck! The poor little seal could be seen struggling trying to get free and heard gasping for breath. Yet nobody would go near it due to a law restricting humans from going near the federally restricted animals.

As I watched this story, I couldn't believe that so many people were willing to watch this poor animal possibly die. I knew that I would have been willing to break the law in that situation. Thankfully, someone else had the same idea and snuck over to free the baby seal from the net in the middle of the night. Thank you mystery person!

Please forgive me. Now that I am getting a handle on some of my side jobs/projects, I hereby swear that I will be more mindful to my poor, neglected little Lemonade blog.

Speaking of Lemonade, I recently discovered that a fairly popular blog, called Sk*rt are considering changing their name to "Lemonade" and using the tagline, "when life gives you lemons". Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about that. They have a few different options though. Can't wait to see what they select!

My photography as mostly hobby is turning into a nice little side business. People are catching on and beginning to book appointments with me! I am one busy girl on my weekends now and LOVING it. Because of the demand, not to mention my passion for shooting pretty pictures, I have decided to focus even more on photography. I will still do freelance design when the opportunity arises and definitely will still have my day job, but I am super excited at what my future holds as, (gasp!) a photographer!

Basically, I am developing an identity and marketing strategies for photography due to the amount of interest I've been getting. Website, business cards, etc are coming soon. Yay!!!

On top of the marketing I will be doing, I will continue to focus on learning more and more. It's just the beginning.

Julianne Moore is amazing! I think she is so beautiful, has such a unique look and just radiates natural sex appeal and glamour. Look at these fantastic new shots of her gracing the cover of Vogue Paris, photographed by Mario Testino. This definitely serves as inspiration for me, photographically speaking. The shoes, the jewelry, hair, makeup and colors are just perfect! (Hope the sheer top in the bottom photo doesn't offend any of you.)

My favorite feature of Apartment Therapy are their home contests, such as the Small Cool 2008. So far I haven't seen a home that's completely knocked my socks off, but I absolutely adore seeing how other people live! Love the idea of using chandelier designs as art, especially if you live in a rental that doesn't allow you to actually hang a lighting fixture. Duffy London has a nice collection of lightbox prints. Also noteworthy is Made by Girl's Chandelier print sets. You can even choose your own mix of colors.

My picture made it into the local AIGA's monthly e-zine this week! This was taken at their web design workshop after a very long day! The next meeting should be incredible! Ann Willoughby, President and Creative Director of Willoughby Design Group, and Starbucks’ Stanley Hainsworth will be speaking! And in June my "secret" project (involving my recent photoshoot of Meghan...below) will be revealed at the annual AIGA Poker Tournament.
